Underground Utility Improvements Completed. Concrete Replacements Begin.

Work Performed Last Week, June 11th to June 15th
·         Underground utility work completed.
·         Completed storm sewer installation
·         Installed storm sewer services
·         Abandoned or removed old water valves and fire hydrants.
·         Abandoned old storm sewer mainline pipe.

Work Anticipated to be performed next week, June 18th to June 22nd
·         Remove concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways on the east / south side of Blackthorn Drive from Silverwillow Drive to Sequoia Trail. Temporary access will be provided to driveways until concrete is poured.
·         Excavate spoils and prepare base materials for concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways on west / north side of Blackthorn Drive from SIlverwillow Drive to Sequoia Trail.
·         Pour concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways on west / north side of Blackthorn Drive.

The underground utility improvement phase of the project is now completed. The contractor has moved into the roadway rehabilitation phase.

The contractor will be removing and pouring the concrete curb & gutter, sidewalk, and driveways on the north / west side of Blackthorn Drive this week. Depending on weather and work progress, we are hoping all residents without driveway access will have it restored by the weekend.  Once the concrete is poured, it will need to cure for approximately 4 days prior to allowing vehicles to drive over it.  In cases where concrete curb & gutter, sidewalk, and driveways are being replaced at the same home, the period without driveway access may be extended.

Once the driveways on the north / west side of Blackthorn Drive are replaced and access is restored, the concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways will be replaced on the south / east side of Blackthorn Drive.

We do understand the inconvenience that comes with being out of your driveway for an extended period of time. Please understand we will do everything to reduce the amount of time out are out of your driveways to the greatest extent possible.  Thanks again for all your patience and understanding.

Water Main Improvements Completed!!!

Work Performed Last Week, June 4th to June 8th
·         Water main work completed!!!
·         Completed water service replacements
·         Made final connection between new water main and existing water main
·         Began storm sewer installation
·         Repaired sections of damaged concrete curb & gutter.

Work Anticipated to be performed next week, June 11th to June 15th
·         Complete storm sewer installation
·         Continue with concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk installation once storm sewer completed.
·         NPL / Nicor to be on-site to relocate gas main near large culvert
·         Comcast potentially on-site to relate cables near large culvert

It is anticipated the underground utility (water main, sanitary sewer, storm sewer) improvements will be completed by the end of next week. Once that work is completed, the project will move into the roadway improvements phase. During this time, the concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk will be replaced where previously damaged or in poor condition. There will be periods in which residents will not have access to their driveways for 5-7 days while the concrete is removed, poured, and allowed proper time to cure.  If a driveway is affected, each resident will be provided with a hand-delivered letter stating when the restriction will occur and when access will be restored.

We are continually working with various utility companies (ComEd, Comcast, AT&T, and Nicor) to have their facilities relocated in the area of the large culvert replacement.  Once all utilities are relocated, the culvert will be replaced. Additional information will be provided when this phase of the construction begins.

We understand several residents are having issues with the various utilities due to work performed. Although the Village does not own or maintain these facilities, we are working to get all the issues resolved as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during the recent water main shut-downs.  No additional water service disruptions are anticipated.
