Culvert Replacement to Begin

Work Performed:
·         Removed and graded base course from culvert to Sequoia Trail
·         Paved first layer of asphalt pavement from culvert to Sequoia Trail
·         Installed Road Closed signs at culvert in preparation for culvert replacement. Unfortunately due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict with the contractor, the work was delayed into next week.

Work Anticipated to be performed, July 23rd to July 27th
·         Install in-stream controls prior to culvert replacement
·         Remove existing culvert
·         Replace existing sanitary sewer under culvert
·         Remove abandoned water main under culvert
·         Depending on work progress, begin installation of precast culvert sections.

With the first layer of asphalt pavement being completed hopefully you are seeing a reduction in the amount of dust and easier traveling. A majority of the topsoil is completed; however, there are some more areas to be cleaned up, graded, and topsoil installed.  Sod is still scheduled to be performed in early fall when growing conditions are more favorable.

We apologize for the delay in getting the culvert replacement work started.  Work is currently scheduled to begin early next week with the hopes of getting some of the culvert re-installed prior to the end of the week.

Thanks again for all your patience during the construction project.

Blackthorn Drive at Culvert to Close July 17th

Work Performed:
·         Poured concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways
·         Asphalt patched trench from culvert to southerly project limits
·         Rough graded and clean-up of spoil behind the curb & gutter
·         Installation and grading of topsoil in disturbed areas, sod will not be installed until weather conditions are more favorable.

Work Anticipated to be performed, July 16th to July 20th
·         Removing and grading base course from culvert to Sequoia Trail
·         Paving first layer of asphalt from culvert to Sequoia Trail
·         Complete topsoil installation and grading
·         Install in-stream controls prior to culvert replacement
·         Remove existing culvert
·         Replace existing sanitary sewer under culvert
·         Remove abandoned water main under culvert

The roadway reconstruction will continue next week from the culvert to Sequoia Trail.  It is anticipated the first layer of asphalt will be paved on Monday, depending on weather. The first layer of asphalt is a significant project milestone as a smooth driving surface will be provided and the amount of dust will be greatly reduced in the area.

Next week the contractor will also begin the culvert replacement phase of the project. Blackthorn Drive will be closed to all traffic within the culvert work area starting on Tuesday, July 17th.  Please plan an alternate route around this area. The gate at Sequoia Trail and Chestnut Avenue will also be occasionally opened to allow for mobilization of equipment and material deliveries.  Any time when the gate is needed to be opened, a representative will be on-site to open, close, and lock it once access is no longer needed.

Thanks again to all those residents that were out of their driveways during the concrete pouring and curing process.

Thank you in advance for altering your travel routes as the roadway is closed to complete the culvert work.

Underground Utility Improvements Completed. Concrete Replacements Begin.

Work Performed Last Week, June 11th to June 15th
·         Underground utility work completed.
·         Completed storm sewer installation
·         Installed storm sewer services
·         Abandoned or removed old water valves and fire hydrants.
·         Abandoned old storm sewer mainline pipe.

Work Anticipated to be performed next week, June 18th to June 22nd
·         Remove concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways on the east / south side of Blackthorn Drive from Silverwillow Drive to Sequoia Trail. Temporary access will be provided to driveways until concrete is poured.
·         Excavate spoils and prepare base materials for concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways on west / north side of Blackthorn Drive from SIlverwillow Drive to Sequoia Trail.
·         Pour concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways on west / north side of Blackthorn Drive.

The underground utility improvement phase of the project is now completed. The contractor has moved into the roadway rehabilitation phase.

The contractor will be removing and pouring the concrete curb & gutter, sidewalk, and driveways on the north / west side of Blackthorn Drive this week. Depending on weather and work progress, we are hoping all residents without driveway access will have it restored by the weekend.  Once the concrete is poured, it will need to cure for approximately 4 days prior to allowing vehicles to drive over it.  In cases where concrete curb & gutter, sidewalk, and driveways are being replaced at the same home, the period without driveway access may be extended.

Once the driveways on the north / west side of Blackthorn Drive are replaced and access is restored, the concrete curb & gutter, sidewalks, and driveways will be replaced on the south / east side of Blackthorn Drive.

We do understand the inconvenience that comes with being out of your driveway for an extended period of time. Please understand we will do everything to reduce the amount of time out are out of your driveways to the greatest extent possible.  Thanks again for all your patience and understanding.

Water Main Improvements Completed!!!

Work Performed Last Week, June 4th to June 8th
·         Water main work completed!!!
·         Completed water service replacements
·         Made final connection between new water main and existing water main
·         Began storm sewer installation
·         Repaired sections of damaged concrete curb & gutter.

Work Anticipated to be performed next week, June 11th to June 15th

·         Continue with concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk installation once storm sewer completed.
·         NPL / Nicor to be on-site to relocate gas main near large culvert
·         Comcast potentially on-site to relate cables near large culvert

It is anticipated the underground utility (water main, sanitary sewer, storm sewer) improvements will be completed by the end of next week. Once that work is completed, the project will move into the roadway improvements phase. During this time, the concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk will be replaced where previously damaged or in poor condition. There will be periods in which residents will not have access to their driveways for 5-7 days while the concrete is removed, poured, and allowed proper time to cure.  If a driveway is affected, each resident will be provided with a hand-delivered letter stating when the restriction will occur and when access will be restored.

We are continually working with various utility companies (ComEd, Comcast, AT&T, and Nicor) to have their facilities relocated in the area of the large culvert replacement.  Once all utilities are relocated, the culvert will be replaced. Additional information will be provided when this phase of the construction begins.

We understand several residents are having issues with the various utilities due to work performed. Although the Village does not own or maintain these facilities, we are working to get all the issues resolved as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during the recent water main shut-downs.  No additional water service disruptions are anticipated.

Thanks again for all your patience and understanding as you deal with the dust, travel delays, and other inconveniences of living within a construction area.

The disruptions to your water service are coming to an end.  The water service replacements are anticipated to be completed by the end of the week. There are a total of 3 water main connections to the existing water main system at the project limits and each intersection.  It is anticipated those will be completed in the next 1-2 weeks. 24-hour notice will be provided to those affected residents prior to the schedule water main shut-down to make the connections.

The recent rain events have helped in controlling the amount of dust present; however, be assured we will try to minimize the amount of dust to the greatest extent possible by utilizing water, street sweepers, and chemicals as needed.  Some travel delays through the project site are to be expected, your patience in traveling to and from your home is greatly appreciated. We are committed to ensure proper travel ways are maintained to provide access. We do anticipate some potholing will occur within the trenches and gravel sections of roadway, these will be smooth out on a regular basis, but please drive carefully.

Thank you again for all your understanding as you live within the construction area.

Two water main shut-downs also occurred last week.  One was schedule to make the connection to the existing water main on the south end of the project, you should have received a notice from the Village Water Department regarding this shut-down.  The second was an unexpected shut-down due to the contractor hitting a water service.  We thank you for your patience and understanding during these times.
